Luis Suarez visited Alder Hey Children’s Hospital today to help hand over a £12,000 charitable donation raised by the club’s academy in memory of youngster Stephen Packer, who tragically died in November last year after a battle with cancer.
Packer was treated at Alder Hey.
“I admire the strength of the family. It must have been difficult to come back to the hospital but they find more strength from being able to help other families who are going through what they did.” Suarez said of Packer’s family.
The money was raised by academy staff taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge in May and fundraising at the inaugural Stephen Packer Memorial Cup in the Summer of this year.
The donation will go towards the building of a new room at the hospital following a request from Packer’s parents.
“We’d like to thank the Academy and everyone who has kindly donated money to such an important cause in Stevie’s memory.” Chris Packer, Stephen’s father, said.
