Brendan Rodgers has spoken of his desire to keep Liverpool inside the top six before hopefully bolstering his squad in January.
The Reds made a flying start to the 2013/14 Premier League campaign – with three consecutive victories taking them to the top of the table – but have picked up just one point from their last two league matches.
After bowing out of the Capital One Cup in midweek the club now have just the league to focus on for the rest of 2013 – and Rodgers believes the lack of distractions can only be beneficial.
“Now we can only concentrate on the league up until Christmas, so we have to make sure we stay up in that top six in the league” he said.
Liverpool were linked with a number of big signings through the summer that never came off, and Rodgers dropped clear hints both that he’s not happy with the current strength of the squad and that he intends to strengthen in the January transfer window.
“I think the players have made an excellent start. We were flat and subdued at the weekend (against Southampton) and we couldn’t get going – part of that was because of the players we had available.” he added.
“Hopefully we can reinforce in January.”
