Liverpool slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Southampton thanks to Dejan Lovren’s headed goal in the Premier League clash at Anfield.
The Croatian connected with a second-half corner to head home, subjecting the Reds to their first defeat in 2013-14.
The lineup selected by Brendan Rodgers had raised eyebrows, with four natural centre-backs selected in defence – a move many thought was too cautious.
The fears proved to be founded as Liverpool spent large spells of the game on the back foot, and were lucky to only lose by just the one goal – Simon Mignolet being forced into action on a number of occasions to avoid doubling the deficit.
The home side had a late flurry of chances, but ultimately were unable to get the equaliser that would have at least secured a point.
