Jose Enrique has insisted Philippe Coutinho has the ability to lead Liverpool back into the top-four in next season’s Premier League.
The Brazilian star made a significant impact at Anfield following his arrival from Inter Milan in January, and Liverpool fans will be rightly excited about the prospect of seeing what the playmaker can do during a full Premier League season for the club.
Another disappointing league campaign saw Liverpool finish well short of the Champions League places last season, much to the chagrin of fans hoping to cash-out on football bets, but Brendan Rogers’ team are expected to be a much improved side by the time the new season comes kicks off on August 17.
Enrique, who enjoyed an impressive run-in to the season after a slow start, has admitted he sees Coutinho playing a key role in Liverpool’s plans next season.
The Spanish defender says that the main target for the club will be making a return to the Champions League, backing the Brazilian schemer to be an integral part of the team’s hopes.
“Coutinho is a very special player. His vision and his passing is incredible and he’s an amazing lad as well. It was really good to have him in the team and he proved to be a great signing. For me, Coutinho was the best player in the Premier League in the second half of the season.”
“He’s still young and improving but I think he will be very important for us next season when we will fight to get into the top four. Hopefully he will help us achieve our target of the Champions League.”
