Joe Allen to miss the rest of the season

Liverpool have confirmed that Joe Allen will be sidelined for three months as he is set to undergo surgery on his left shoulder.

A club spokesman said: “Joe will be ready to return to football at the beginning of next season.”

The £15million signing from Swansea was a regular feature in the starting XI at the beginning of the campaign but has found first-team opportunities limited since the return to fitness of Lucas.Joe_2917944[1]

Italian striker Fabio Borini is back in training at Melwood but is also unlikely to feature again this this season. Borini had only just returned to action from a lengthy layoff when he dislocated his shoulder, compounding what has been an injury-ravaged season at the club.

Liverpool’s other long-term casualty – Martin Kelly, out with cruciate knee damage – is also targeting a return in time for the 2013/14 campaign.
